Last week I mentioned that Sport had finally got a bigger bedroom. The smaller one he left behind is now the designated TV-cum-guest room.

Guest Room:

Guest Room PlanThe room is smallish, so we didn’t want to crowd it with too much furniture. The sofa and chair are enough for the family-of-5 to watch a movie together or play a game of UNO on a weekend. (Snoopy always manages to make space for herself over, under or next to the rest of her pack!) A small TV unit serves to hold the remotes, set top box etc. It is a simply planned room and a cozy space for the family to spend time together.Guest room plan

We have also ensured that the room is comfortable for guests. The sofa-cum-bed is easy to open up when guests visit. The two units have side tables with drawers for guests to store their knick-knacks.  There is also a shoe drawer right at the bottom. Each table has a point for charging cell phones. The units also have wardrobe-like shelves with a hanging space on top.

The outer shells of the units have been made and this is what the guest room looks like right now.

Wardrobe

We’ve left a little space between the window wall and the unit for the curtains to slide through easily.

Sport’s Room:

This is the wardrobe and study table design for Sport’s room. We have pulled the bathroom door in line with the wardrobes to give the unit a uniform finish. This will also add a little space to the bathroom area.Kids room wardrobe plan

Red is Sport’s favourite colour, but it might be too loud on its own. So he has decided he wants a sporty room in red and blue. We’ve added a laminate finish and a wallpaper to his mood board so far. As we go along we’ll build on this and might change some of it too. (Don’t be surprised if neither of these are finally used in the room… That happens too!) But for now, this is what we’re going with.

So the work is going at a slow and steady pace, the crucial word here being ‘slow’. It usually takes a while before all the craftsmen are on site in full strength and we’re hoping Jeetu can get more of his team in on site as soon as possible.

Speaking of site, one of the simplest pleasures of a site meeting is a glass of ‘cutting chai’. According to Samosapedia, “Cutting chai is to the Indian working class what Castrol super TT is to 4-stroke engines.” I couldn’t have said this better!

Cutting chai

As you can see, it can’t really be described as a ‘glass’ of tea. I like to think of it as a ‘tea-shot’. It is a 45-60 ml concoction of strong and sweet tea which can kick-start you into action on the sleepiest and drowsiest of days. As they say…
