We’re here with mom’s home office reveal today, and considering how little we changed here, I am thrilled with how truly ‘refreshed’ the room now looks. If you remember, this is a quick refresh that we are giving my parents’ home. We completely redesigned it 8 years back. They now needed the home repainted and the furniture refurbished. And we used that as a good excuse to change its look and feel.

Mom’s Home Office Reveal

First I’m going to show you the plan.. which, you’ll remember from the introductory post, we didn’t change at all.

Mom is a psychological counselor so the perfect office space for her is a pleasant, comfortable room with relaxed seating.

Mom's Home Office Refresh - Part 1

The Chair:

We had taken care of the ‘comfortable room’ and most of the relaxed seating too. Except mom’s chair.

She has to sit long hours and realised she wasn’t too happy with the chair she originally had here. So she picked up this beauty from the living room and put it in her office.

Mom's Home Office Refresh - Part 1

When we refreshed her living room I wanted to put it back where it belongs. She said I could if I replaced it with something appropriate.

The chair had to be a chair, not a sofa, because she didn’t want anything heavy. But chairs are usually not as comfortable as sofas, and this one had to be because of the hours she spends on it. Finally, it had to have an elegant, classic, timeless appeal. It had to be the statement piece in this room like the living room chair was.

The words ‘classic’ and ‘timeless’ instantly brought Tianu to mind. I asked her to go visit their store and assured her she would find what she’s looking for. And sure enough she did.

She came back with this pretty piece called the ‘Plexi’. It’s light and beautiful like she wanted it and she’s happy to sit in it for hours. And this one is definitely not going out of style any time soon.

The Furnishings:

With the only piece of furniture we needed taken care of, we started selecting our soft furnishings. Remember how I had shortlisted a whole bunch of rugs for her to select from for their living room? I did the same for the office, and she selected this rug from the list.

I thought it was a great choice. The orange makes it bright, because she did want a cheerful feel to the room. Yet, because the colour blends in so well with the wooden floor, the ‘bright’ is automatically toned down.

This IS a counselling room after all. Though we do want it to be cheerful, it also has to be somewhat peaceful too. And so, to achieve this, we decided to use a whole lot of whites for the calm along with orange accents for the cheer.

Artwork:

Mom loves to paint in her spare time. So at any given point of time, if you raid her art cupboard, you’ll find a collection of paintings she has completed and stashed away. So this big blank entrance wall (see the before pic below) was very easy to deal with.

We mixed and matched from her collection of artwork to make a little gallery wall.

The large painting above the sofa earlier had a blue mount. Though I had got this framed myself 8 years back, I now thought it looked all wrong. (Sometimes we begin to like different things, and sometimes, like in this case, we just learn better over time!)

The white mount brought new life to this painting (scroll down for before) and it was just a happy chance that this had orange in it too!

Bring In The Greens!

And finally the plants. They help to bring in the calm and the cheer… and we don’t like to call a room complete without them anyways!

Before & Afters:

Here are some before and afters to show you just how superficial our refresh was here, and yet we’ve breathed new life into this room.

The window wall which you face as you enter the room…

We replaced the heavy drapes with sheer curtains to keep the room looking bright at all times. A bigger rug and a centre table complete the room.

After

This beautiful, comfortable chair, that had been ‘stolen’ from the living room..

We returned it to its rightful place and kept our promise by replacing it with another beautiful, comfortable chair from Tianu.

After

The entrance wall, which was a big, blank canvas…

We ‘shopped’ through mom’s collection of artwork to make a vibrant gallery wall to enliven it.

After

And finally the main sofa wall…

We swapped the dull greyish blue for a bright white for both, the fabric on the sofa and the mount on the artwork.

As you can see, changing the furnishings and accessorizing has made a world of difference to this room.

Get The Look

We have mostly shopped from home for the furniture and decor of this room. But, in case you like how mom’s home office reveal turned out, I am sharing below the few pieces that we did purchase.

| – 1 – Rectangular Resham Cushion Cover | – 2- Ethnic Motif Cushion Cover | – 3 – Cat Planter | – 4 – Mandala Cushion Cover | – 5 – Plexi Chair by Tianu | – 6 – Poeme Rug |

.

That wraps up mom’s home office reveal for today. Since the furnishings, decor and styling of a space is my favourite part of any project (obviously!) I had great fun doing it. That mom was the client (much easier to convince… and sometimes overrule 😉 ) as compared to a regular ‘client’ was an added bonus. There are still two rooms in my parents’ home that haven’t been refreshed yet. I am hoping that they come up on the list soon!

But, until then, let me know what you thought of this refresh, and what was your favourite part. I will look forward to your comments.

Until then,

Rittika @ Ariyona Interior

Very very refreshing Rittika !! Not often is this kind of a door polish used these days.
The polish and the other hues of orange are quite a rare combo.I love it.
