I was at a family wedding this weekend. Weddings are always fun and I had a great time catching up with family, gorging on yummylicious food and with all the gaana-bajaana and mazaa-masti associated with weddings.
I also tried to make myself a little useful around the place. So I became assistant to my cousin who was in charge of the wedding decoration.
Well, she was totally in charge and knew exactly what she wanted and what had to be done. So more than assist her, I just tried to keep her company while she was going about her work. And I totally loved how the decor turned out.
She used marigold flower decoration all around the venue. All the decor was really simple and absolutely beautiful. And the venue looked gorgeous and graceful rather than over-the-top and ostentatious.
She had even arranged for this cute rickshaw decorated in marigold in which the groom made his grand entrance!
I realised a lot of the ideas can easily be used for home decor too. Marigold flowers are considered very auspicious and we use them all the time on occasions like pujas and Diwali. But when I throw a party at home, I immediately start thinking orchids, roses, gerberas… How many of us think marigold for a party?
I figured if marigold can be used in a bridal bouquet, we should start rethinking marigold flower decoration for our homes too!
So here goes… some really easy marigold flower decoration ideas for the home.
Marigold Flower Decoration at the Entrance:
I loved this simple idea of piling up earthen pots and pouring marigold garlands from them. You could do this down steps as shown here, or even just outside your entrance door if you stay in a flat.
If you have a little more space, spread out the garlands in twirls and swirls and make your own design.
Or lay out the marigold and add diyas, candles or lanterns for a warm welcome.
Marigold Flower Centerpieces:
These marigold centerpieces are easy to make and you can use them pretty much anywhere in the home. As a centerpiece on your dining table, or a side table or book shelf. The orange and yellow add colour and warmth wherever you use them.
A large glass vase or jar with a few marigold flowers floating in it. You could even add a tealight to this. Place a few of these individually around your home, or a group of different shaped glass jars to make a larger centerpiece.
Or take a shallow tray, carpet it with marigold and add some candles. Change the shape of your tray according to the shape of your table. A round tray for a circular table, or a long tray for a side board.
Or take a bunch of long stemmed marigold and put them in a vase like you would with any other flower.
Add other flowers to your bunch of marigold to add more colour.
Or put a bigger bunch of marigold with lots of greens into a basket.
Some More Marigold Flower Decoration Ideas:
I loved these simple marigold balls suspended from the trees. They’ve used yellow and orange marigold and added some cane balls too. Marigold garlands are quite easily available, so you can easily do this at home too. Use some of these at your entrance, or in a window or terrace, or in corner of your living room, above a lamp or a plant.
Marigold garlands wrapped around the back of dining chairs… it doesn’t get simpler than this!
Or a garland flowing out of a vase. This can be done on any table, side board or book shelf.
This marigold chandelier is not as easy as the rest, but by no means impossible to do! You’ll have to get yourself a tree branch, use a needle and thread to string the marigold flowers onto it, and then suspend the branch from your ceiling. But the result will definitely be worth the effort! Add some fairy lights and you actually have a chandelier!
And this marigold photo frame was a super-hit photo booth at the wedding. Every single one of us got ourselves clicked there. And all of us look like we have glowing complexions from the golden flowers. It would make an awesome photo booth idea for a party too!
I hope you’re inspired to think marigold the next time you feel like pampering yourself with some flowers at home, or the next time you’re having friends over. I most certainly am! Here’s to some marigold flower power!
Until next time,
