I love to decorate with mirrors for many reasons. For one, they always look glamorous. Secondly, you can literally get them in any size to fit any space. Then, they always make any space look bigger, brighter and larger, so to decorate with mirrors is to kill two birds with one stone. Next, and very importantly, they are a very economical decor option and so can be used in interiors of any budget.

Decorate With Mirrors:

And lastly, there isn’t only one way you can decorate with mirrors. There are just so many. So here today are my favourite ways, 7 of them, that work every time. Let’s get right to it.

(1) Use Mirror Like Artwork:

The very simplest way to use mirrors. You have a blank wall? You don’t know what to put up there? Use a mirror in a beautiful frame.

This passage for instance, from our rental living room makeover. This was a big blank empty wall that we didn’t want to do anything permanent on because, well, this was a rental home. So we painted it a bright pink. Then we lightly coated this frame with gold and used this mirror we already had.

Many of you know this mirror from my living room. It takes pride of place above the sofa, like a beautiful piece of art would.

(2) Above A Console:

Another simple and beautiful way to decorate with mirrors is to use them above a console. This is especially useful in entryways and foyers. The mirrors will up the glam quotient of your foyer… after all it is the first part of your home that anyone sees when they step in. They also help you to give yourself a quick once-over as you step out of your home… after all it is the last part of your home you’ll see before you step out!

Whether your style is more traditional and vintage…

… or modern and sleek, mirrors on consoles always look great!

(3) Mirrors as Faux Windows:

This is something I haven’t tried myself yet, but am very eager to. I think this would be especially useful in the far corner of a room, where there isn’t enough natural light. These corners tend to look dark and gloomy. I would want to place the mirror windows opposite real ones, so that they can reflect the natural light into the dark corner and make it look open too.

You could do one large window, as seen above, or a series of smaller ones as seen below. The effect is just as beautiful.

(4) Mirror Gallery Wall:

Gallery walls make for stunning decor as it is. Make that a gallery wall of mirrors and that’s double the fun.

Like in any gallery wall, when you’re doing a collection of frames it helps the collection to look cohesive if it has a common thread. For example, if you’re doing frames of different sizes, you could make sure they are of similar shape. The frames on this wall, for instance are mostly rectangular.

Or they could all be of the same style.

If you want to go bolder with their shape and style, you could use similar colour tones to tie them all in.

Any which way, a mirror gallery wall done right, will always be a stunner!

(5) Floor Mirrors:

If space is not an issue, this is another very simple and elegant way to decorate with mirrors. Use a large sized mirror, and simply place it on the floor.

As with the other options, this too will work in different styles. You could go in for a heavier, decorated mirror.

(6) On Storage Shutters:

Being an interior designer in Mumbai where our room sizes are so very small, I find this the most practical way to decorate with mirrors. Every bedroom is tiny, each one of them needs a mirror, and once your furniture is in, there are usually no walls to spare to fit one in. So the best solution, put the mirror ON the furniture.

You saw it work in my dressing area, where we fitted in an entire wall length storage behind the wall length mirror.

It worked beautifully for a similar storage along the bed side tables of our neutral beroom makeover.

And it worked wonderfully well on the wardrobe shutters of our garden style vintage bedroom.

(7) Mirror Wall Panels:

This for the really tiny, dark places that you want to open out and give a new life to. Or for those spaces that need a high dosage of glamour. A full mirror wall is perfect.

If it’s an extra large wall and you can’t do a single mirror, or just for adding some design to it, don’t be afraid of using joints. You could bevel the edges of the mirror along the joints to add more glitz.

I love the drama added to this mirror wall with the all that beautiful golden moulding.

So whether a small frame, or an entire wall, mirrors are a fabulous way to decorate any space. They are my easy, go to solution for many decor problems.
