Today I’m going to show you around another room from our White & Light Home… the parent’s bedroom. Their taste is simpler and more traditional and so that’s the look we have decided to give this room. We’ve planned a pastel bedroom for the parents, with soft colours and classical wood tones for warmth.

A Pretty Pastel Bedroom:

This is the largest bedroom in the house with an entire wall of generous windows. It has plenty of fresh air, natural light… and space, and we plan to make the most of it. So first, let me show you the plan.

You enter the bedroom through a small passageway and the first thing you see are the large windows straight ahead. There is already a raised platform in place, which is perfect for some window seating.

We’ve placed the floor-to-ceiling wardrobes right opposite the windows, along the bathroom wall.

We swapped one bedside table for a study table to give some working space in the room, whether it’s writing a note or ironing some clothes. Mom loves to sew and so can also use her sewing machine there.

Opposite the bed comes the television with a useful console.

The plan is quite simple and straightforward, but it’s always the details that make it more interesting. So let me walk you through them.

The Window Wall:

When you walk into the bedroom, you are greeted by these grand windows. You will notice a large window around the corner to the right too.

There is also a big platform which is perfect to create a cozy window seat with an amazing view.

We’re hoping to add a comfortable mattress with loads of cushions to make the window an ideal spot for relaxation.

To give our window seat a finished look, we’ll panel the ceiling above the window with slats of wood. Wood also always makes a space look more cozy and warm.

Since the window is such a prominent part of the parent’s bedroom, how we plan the drapes will make a huge difference to how the room eventually looks. I love the idea of using Roman blinds with window seating.

As you saw above, we have 3 window panels, similar to this window below. So our blinds would end up looking something like this.

During the day, sometimes, you need to cut out the glare of direct sunlight without making the room dark. Layering the blinds with sheers helps do that. We plan on using soft colours in our blinds and sheers to make our pretty pastel bedroom.

The Bed Wall:

Just to the left and almost as prominent as our windows, is our bed wall. We wanted to break the monotony of this large, plain wall while keeping the soft look of our pastel bedroom. We thought the best way to do this would be wallpaper.

We could do wallpaper on the entire wall, but then the wallpaper would become monotonous. Instead we thought we would make a panel on the wall to frame the bed and have wallpaper on that.

We have selected this pretty, floral wallpaper. It is our starting point for the colour scheme of our pastel bedroom.

The TV Wall:

The parents wanted storage they could easily organise in which they could keep their medicines, sewing material and other knick knacks. Drawers are the easiest way to separate and organise various objects. So we have planned the console under the television with plenty of drawers, similar to the one below.

I’m sure we’ll get some artwork above our television, and that should complete of our TV wall.

The Wardrobes:

Which leaves the last vacant wall in the bedroom, where we have planned our wardrobes. Though they wanted earthy, wood tones in the bedroom, they weren’t too happy with the thought of the whole wall being a single wood tone. So we’ve decided to give vertical panels on the wardrobe, similar to the picture below. Only, in our case, the wardrobe will be the wood tone and the vertical stripe will be a deep grey.

Grey always makes a great neutral and will help add some base to our soft pastel bedroom colours.

So that’s the entire plan for our pretty pastel bedroom for the parents. Don’t forget to sign up for updates if you’re eager to see how it turns out.
