Balcony Ceiling Ideas:

So if we have to hang things from the ceiling, the important question is what should we hang? In this post we’ve got 7 simple ideas for you.

(1) Hang Plants:

It can’t get simpler than that… and it can’t get prettier. This is especially helpful in teeny-tiny balconies where either you or a potted plant can fit in. If you can’t add your greens on to the floor, simply hang them from above.

The next question would be how to hang the plants. While simple hooks will do just fine, you could try these various looks to make your balcony ceiling look even prettier. Use rafters on the ceiling to hang your plants.

While this is a custom made ladder, you could hang a regular wooden ladder using hooks and then hang plants off its steps.

I’ve used a wrought iron grid on the ceiling of my balcony to hang plants and lights. I wanted an easy way to be able to shuffle around lights and plants as and when I felt like it. This grid works perfectly.

Another thing that always has me swooning is a sprinkling of hanging lights. Whether it is bare bulbs on strings…

(3) Hang Pretty Drapes:

Drapes don’t necessarily have to be used only inside your home. They look really pretty in outdoor spaces too. Whether you use plain whites…

… or bright colours, flowing drapes look fabulous. I would use light, simple sheer fabric which is easy to machine wash regularly since it will definitely catch a lot of dust on the outside. If your balcony gets direct sunlight at any point in the day, drapes have the added advantage softening the light so you can use the balcony at any time of the day.

(4) Hang a Swing:

Do you know anyone who wouldn’t want to gently sway on a swing while reading a book, listening to music or sharing a cup of tea with a friend? A swing is always a winner. If you’re lucky enough to have a large space, go for a big one that can also work as a day bed.

This is something I’ve been struggling with for a while. I really, really want to get a couple of pretty bird feeders for my balcony. I’d love to have chirping little sparrows and parrots flying in and out all day, but I’m afraid of the pigeons that will most likely come along with them. Does anyone know a surefire way to keep pigeons away? Please put it in the comments below. I’m sure a lot of us will be very grateful for that bit of information.
