Introducing the second room from our White & Light Home today… the master bedroom. The clients wanted a light, airy look and had asked for an essentially white home. We decided to add accents in wood tones and black to add some spunk to the white. We went with these colours while planning their bedroom too. So today we are sharing the plans of our black and white bedroom.

A Black and White Bedroom

The Existing Bedroom:

This isn’t the largest bedroom in the house, but the clients wanted their parents and daughter to have the bigger bedrooms for the simple reason that they spend more time at home, and therefore, in their rooms.

And even though this is the smallest bedroom, it is the only one with an attached balcony. This is a space they are really looking forward to using, so it all fell into place when they chose this for their bedroom.

This is what the bedroom looks like now. As you enter, the sliding doors to the balcony are straight ahead. This wall to the right is the only one we can place the bed against.

We already have some wardrobes to the left, which need a refresh with new hardware and definitely a face lift to go with the room!

And this is the wall right in front of the bed. The door leads to the bathroom.

The Plan:

A Black and White Bedroom

The bed goes against the entrance wall. We’re planning to keep this simple and white with a few black accents to make a largely black and white bedroom.

We’ve sourced an absolutely gorgeous white bed which I can’t wait to see for myself. Contrasting side tables on either side will complete the set.

We plan to use pendants for bedside lamps. I feel they give a cleaner view at eye level and so make the space look less cluttered.

The wardrobes will get a coat of fresh white paint with either black or brass handles as accents.

On the corner opposite the bed, we had planned a little reading nook, sort of like this. A comfortable chair, a floor lamp and a wall shelf, instead of that unit, to save on floor space. But the gorgeous bed we picked is a little longer than would have been ideal. So we’ll hold on to that plan till the bed comes in and we can get a real feel of the space we have.

In the mean while, we’re getting a full length mirror panel on the wall between the wardrobe and the bathroom door. This will give us the mirror we need in the room and also help to make the room look a little bigger.

We’re getting the open shelf made on the wall, and hopefully will be able to fit in a small easy chair under it!

A Black and White Bedroom:

This is what we’re essentially aiming towards. A mostly white bedroom with the use of patterns and textures in black and neutrals to create interest. I love how the plants in this room are giving it so much life. So it makes me quite happy we have a balcony right outside our room. A green view will definitely add spark to our room.

I also love how the hint of wood tone, whether in the head board or in the photo frames, adds so much warmth to this room.

We’ve frozen on the plan and furniture of this bedroom. And though they make up the larger part of the bedroom it’s always the furnishings and accessories that decide what the room really looks like in the end. So we have loads of selections to be done in terms of curtains, bed spreads, cushions, artwork etc. And honestly, that’s my favourite part.

Looking forward to bring you the finished black and white bedroom soon!

Until next time,
