I was wrapping up the Diwali decor at home and was feeling too lazy to do it. Especially because I knew I would be bringing it out again in a week or two for Christmas. Instead, I thought I would make small changes wherever I could to make it suitable for Christmas. When it came to the lantern, I knew this could be easily done. A click of the button and I had so many magical Christmas lantern decor ideas in front of me on Pinterest. And that is how this post came about…

Magical Christmas Lantern Decor Ideas

There were so many inspiration pics on Pinterest, each one more beautiful than the other. I have included only the sweetest and simplest of those.. ideas I thought can be easily done at home… in this post. And right at the end I’ll show you how I used some of them myself!

1 – Decorate With Fairy Lights

This is truly the simplest way to add Christmas vibes to your decor using lanterns. It’s also suitable for just about any festival or even a party.

In fact, this is what I had done with my lantern for Diwali. I put a string of battery operated LED lights inside it and it added a twinkle to one of the dark corners of our balcony. And I would probably have done the same for Christmas.. except that I saw all these pretty ideas here.

I thought adding candles to the lights made it even prettier. But please make sure you use battery operated candles along with the lights. You don’t want to light a fire near any kind of electricals or batteries.

2 – Use Pine Cones

I think pine cones are my absolutely favourite Christmas decor accents. Simply fill up your lantern with pine cones..

…or intersperse them with a garland around the lantern.

Or tie them on top with a pretty bow. They will add a warm Christmas vibe every time.

4 – Fresh (Or Faux) Flowers

I couldn’t stop drooling over all the lanterns I saw dressed in pretty flowers. I would love to try my hand at an arrangement like this and will definitely share it with you here if I succeed!

You can even put them inside the lantern and they look pretty every time.

5 – Create Snow Globe Type Scenes

These were just the sweetest. Santa Claus with his reindeer and elf in a winter wonderland dotted with pine trees and wrought iron lamps. How cute is this little Christmas scene in a lantern?

Or the little red car carrying a Christmas tree atop it, with that little snowman smiling away.

The possibilities are endless here and this is such a delightful way to personalise your Christmas decor and make it exciting.

So I Couldn’t Stop Myself!

Yup, I just couldn’t. I saw all these pretty pics and knew for sure my lantern wasn’t going back in the storage cupboard. Out came my Christmas decor carton and I pulled out everything inside it… and ended up with this Christmas lantern centerpiece.

I didn’t have any garland, so I used faux ficus leaves I got a while ago. What I did have were the berries and pine leaves from years back when I DIYed these Christmas candles. I added those to the ficus leaves and it started looking Christmassy in an instant.

All the pics reminded me I must add something on top too. So I twisted some berries and pine leaves together and hung a set from each side. And finished off with the simple white bow on top.

Then came a string of battery operated LED lights that I twisted in with all the greens. As evening set and the room got darker, the Christmas lantern centerpiece came to life.

I love the beautiful glow and the Christmas vibes… and at least one corner of our home is now Christmas ready!

Magical Christmas Lantern Decor Ideas

Making this Christmas lantern centerpiece took just about 15 minutes, and I didn’t buy anything to do this. It’s been made from leftover Christmas decorations from over the years.

I love how it’s turned out and am so excited about the many ways I can decorate that lantern. Something that I will probably end up buying, are more lanterns!

Hope you enjoyed this DIY. It’s super easy, so do try your own.

Also, I have loads of Christmas decor ideas here on the blog, so click if you’re wondering where to get started.

And have a magical festive season!
