A new day, a new year.. and another new reveal. It’s been a while since I shared one of our new spaces with you here, so I’m really excited to share this gorgeous space today. Let’s start the tour of this new home at the most obvious place to start. Welcome to the entrance and foyer of Sylver.

Entrance and Foyer - Sylver

Entrance and Foyer of Sylver

But first, why Sylver?

The pic above should give you a clue.

The main entrance and foyer of Sylver are designed predominantly in shades of grey, with wood and black accents.

But ‘Grey’ does not do justice to this home. When you think ‘grey’, you think dull and gloomy, and this home is anything but. Which is why we thought of ‘silver’, which is the lustrous and glamorous side of grey.

And so, once again, welcome to Sylver!

The Plan

We enter the home through a long passage and we decided to make it a dramatic one.

Just as you enter the home, on the left there is a small powder bathroom. (Bathroom reveals coming up soon!) Then we have a small niche into which we fit in our sideboard and mirror. Next comes the guest room. We designed this to have two completely collapsible walls. At most times these are folded away to make the guest room an extension of the living room. When required, the walls can be pulled into place to completely close the room and make a private space.

On the right are doors to the study and the kitchen.

The Main Door

As you step out of the lift, you look down a passage leading to the main door of the home.

You get a feel of what’s to come the minute you look at it. We paneled the wall in grey to match the door. Wooden rafters go vertically from floor to ceiling along the entire wall and door.

Tiny spot lights between each rafter light up the main entrance beautifully.

The bench right outside the door makes a great spot to wear your shoes or have someone wait a few minutes. I love how the vertical bars on the bench back tie in so splendidly with the vertical rafters.

The Shoe Storage

To the left of the main door is another passage that leads to the service lifts.

This too, is quite long, and we placed a side board along its length to make the shoe storage.

This unit was custom made on site, and the patterned shutters add to the drama of light and shadow that begins at the rafters.

The Foyer

When you open the door, you see the long passage continue into the home. As described in the plan above, you first see the door to the powder bathroom, then the niche with the sideboard, and then the collapsible walls of the guest room, neatly stacked one in front of the other.

We continued with the grey into this passage, using a texture all around, on walls and ceiling.

But instead of bringing attention to the length of the passage, we brought the focus to one spot, around the niche.

The custom made sideboard neatly fits into the niche. Amongst other things, it also houses all the wifi wiring of the home. The large mirror helps to add depth to the narrow passage.

The hero here, is this black chandelier. Whether standing at the main door, or the living room end of the passage, it quickly catches the eye and immediately brings focus to the niche. The black chandelier and mirror frame add to the drama in the foyer.

… just like our black sideboard did at the main door.

While the chandelier brings our attention to the niche on the ceiling, this sliver of a runner does the same for us on the floor. The jute goes perfectly with the rough, textured vibe here, while still adding the soft touch of a rug.

Before and Afters

Let’s do a quick run through some before and afters to enjoy this makeover.

The main entrance door…

Which we glammed up, using rafters and spot lights.

The entrance passage

We added a bench and a tall plant to make it warm and welcoming.

The foyer passage inside..

We completely rejigged this area. Originally it had a huge open kitchen on the right, with the closed guest room on the left.

We divided the area on the right into a kitchen and a small study and opened out the guest room on the left instead, so it could be a part of the living room.

And finally, the entrance niche..

We opened the door of the powder bathroom on the left here, and put our sideboard into what was remaining of the niche.

The rafters are cut at the joint of the door with the wall. They open along with the door.
