On to our next beautiful space from this dazzling home, today we’ll take a walk through the Father’s Room of Keje.

Father’s Room – Keje

Our client here is a simple, elderly gentleman, who wanted very simple interiors for his room. He wanted a comfortable room with no flashy or flamboyant elements. A room that was understated and classy.

Here is how we went about it.

The Plan

Originally, the bedroom door was towards the upper corner in the plan below.. closer to the bathroom door. We shifted it to the centre of the wall so that we could make equal wardrobes on both sides of the door.

The wardrobes are along the entrance wall of the bedroom. The bed and TV unit are opposite each other on the remaining two walls. Next to the TV unit, a small mandir shelf makes the pooja corner.

The large, almost floor to ceiling window on the fourth wall gives this room ample natural light.

The Wardrobes

The wardrobes are placed along the entrance wall of the room. By centering the door, we made both wardrobes equal on either side of it. Since the keyword here was simplicity, we decided to use a radial veneer instead of any complex design, inlay or pattern on the shutters.

A sheet of veneer and two handles… that’s all that has gone on these wardrobes, and yet they look spectacular!

The Bed Wall

We thought with all the arches in the home, a semi circular headboard would work well here, bringing in some of the home into this room too. We went with simple moulding strips on the wall here to dress up this wall as subtly as possible. These were painted to match the wall and blend in.

Fluted, grey and gold bedside tables give a break from all the wood finishes in this room.

The client was also looking for a small mirror in the room, which we thought would fit in perfectly into the narrower moulding panels above the bedside tables. The globe once again ties in beautifully with the semi circular headboard and the round wardrobe handles.

The TV Wall

We propped a painting against this wall temporarily, because the television had not come in yet when we shot this room. Swap the painting for a television in your mind’s eye and you’ll get a very good idea of this space.

Just like the bed wall, we used white on white moulding on the TV wall too. Only this one is arched at the corners to match the home arches.

The smaller arch has a small marble shelf in the middle and a stunning, bespoke wallpaper to make the pooja corner.

The larger arch encompasses the TV and pooja area to bring them together.

Both the arches have LED strips concealed under the moulding and look breathtaking when lit up.

Subtle Simplicity

We went with light, natural, earthy colours for this room. Since almost everything else in this room is floral, we picked a geometric rug here.

The same earthy brown and rust are also seen in the headboard fabric.

Light designs in a self colour on the quilt and bedcover keep the bed looking clean and classic, with the cushions adding a little pop of colour.

The pooja wallpaper is exquisite with it’s intricate details. But the same earthy greys and browns keep this looking modest and classy too.

Overall we have a room that is brimming with elaborate details. Yet all of it is so restrained, that it all weaves effortlessly into each other without screaming for attention.

Before and Afters

As always, let’s end with a few before and afters for a quick roundup of this room.

The window corner..

Did you notice the artificial beam we had to add above to hide the AC piping? We decorated the rest of this wall with self painted moulding trips to make panels behind the bed and the side tables.

The wardrobe corner…

This beautiful veneer with basic, round handles, is all we needed to make these wardrobes look amazing. Take another look at the handles, the headboard and the wall sconce… did you notice all the circles?

The pooja corner…

An arch, a small shelf and the delicate wallpaper come together perfectly to make this sweet, serene mandir.
