Our final stop in the tour of this gorgeous home, is this little boy’s room of Keje.

We’ve taken our time walking through this home. Over the last few weeks I have relived our months of planning, selections and all the little decisions that went into bringing it to life. And I’ve loved sharing it all with you.

I can’t think of a better place than this little boy’s room to end our tour on a sweet note.

Little Boy's Room of Keje

The Plan

Our little boy was a few months old when we started planning this room and a little more than one when he moved into it.

The parents requested an open room, in which he could learn to crawl, walk, run and maybe even ride his little tricycle, without worry of hitting or damaging anything. So we planned minimal furniture and a flexible design that can adapt to his needs as he grows.

Little Boy's Room - Plan

The wardrobe went on one side of the door. The bed on the other. The rest of the room we left open for him to move around freely.

The Bed Wall

As you enter the room, we have the bed on the left side of the room.

Since we wanted to use as little floor space as possible, we planned a whole lot of extra storage below the bed instead of as an additional piece of furniture. A small cupboard and a set of drawers fits neatly below the bed and are large enough to take care of all toys and books. The steps leading up to the bed also all have drawers below them.

We have also planned ahead a little. At the head of the bed we’ve left space to add on a study table at a later stage. Plug points and charging points that he will need to go with the study table have already been put into place. For now, it’s just more empty and open space for him to enjoy.

Wardrobe Wall

The wardrobe fits neatly to the right of the bedroom door, just behind it as you enter. We have drawers on the lower end for our little boy to easily access his toys etc. The wardrobe at a higher level helps mommy to safely keep away the things that need to be out of his reach.

The Beam Above

My favourite part of this room is the wooden beam we have running across the ceiling through the centre of the room. It has hooks at regular intervals from which to hang whatever he feels like. It might be a swing now, a rope ladder when he’s a little boy and a punching bag when he is in his teens. Or all of them all together!

I love the flexibility it offers for the room to grow up along with our little boy.

Our Little Boy’s Room of Keje

Mommy picked green for this little boy’s room. We decided that a kids room needed an extra dash of colour. A painted wainscoting all around the room is a great way to add colour evenly all across. We topped the wainscoting with a wooden moulding for a neat finish.

To give the room a younger look, we picked a white oak veneer for this room, as opposed to the dark walnut used in the rest of the home.

Our little boy loves cars and trucks, and can name quite a few of them already. We had this wallpaper customised by adding fire trucks and ambulances to it, as they are his favourite!

Small additions like the green and white resin knobs to go on all the storage shutters, and the cute dog tail wall hooks, helped complete this sweet room.

Before and Afters

I’ll share a couple of before and afters with you to give you a sense of how we planned the space.

The bedroom door was to one side of the room.

We shifted this to the centre. This way we could plan the bed on one side of it and the wardrobe on the other.

Alongside the wardrobe we have hooks to hang charts and toys, bags and bottles, and anything else to keep within easy reach.
