The master bedroom of Falak Azura is one of the most tenderly beautiful spaces of this home. It reflects the ‘azure’ in the project name perfectly and the clients’ love of blue comes across as clear as a cloudless blue summer sky.

Given the size of the home, the clients could have planned for a much larger sized master bedroom. They decided they would prefer the common areas to be larger and wouldn’t mind a slightly smaller size here.

And we decided that we had to make this room as functional, well planned and beautiful as possible, irrespective of the size.

The Plan

The bed went on the right hand wall of the bedroom with the wardrobes opposite the bed.

A slimmer cabinet with mirror fronted shutters makes the dressing area right next to the wardrobe.

We placed a study table in place of the bedside table on the window side.

This leaves absolutely nowhere to place the television. We created space for the TV in a unit at the foot of the bed, using a plasma lift.

Let me walk you through all of this.

The Bed Wall

As you enter the master bedroom of Falak Azura, the bed and side tables are on the right hand side. The bed is placed at the centre of this wall, with tables on either side.

Since we had space for only one wardrobe each in the bedroom, we augmented that storage by adding smaller storage areas wherever we could.

On the right side of the bed, for instance, we have a large chest of drawers instead of a regular bedside table.

It also makes up for the lesser storage on the left side. Since this is a study table and we need the leg space below it, we could only have one drawer here below the study table top.

Overhead cabinets above both, the study table and the chest of drawers, help with additional storage space.

The Wardrobe Wall

Opposite the bed we have the floor to ceiling wardrobes. A shallower cabinet near the wardrobes with full length mirrors on the shutters makes the dressing area.

The cabinet has been divided into two parts. The smaller section on the right is for everyday use. You can keep it open and access all your dressing accessories while still using the full length mirror in front. The larger shutter need not be opened regularly and gives space to stock items and store the extras.

The TV Unit

The unit at the foot of the bed houses the television on a plasma lift. This can be raised and lowered using a remote control. That top also makes a very useful additional table surface in the room. It’s a great place to keep clothes while you put them in or take them out of your wardrobe, for instance, or to keep a tray with a cup of tea.

While these extra surfaces are always welcome in a bedroom, you have to remember to keep clearing them out, or they can as easily become dumping grounds right in the middle of the room!

Look and Feel

We have storage going up to the ceiling on both sides of this room. If done entirely in wood, this can look really heavy and overbearing and make the room look small and claustrophobic. I still wanted the warmth of wood in the room though, and so we decided to go half and half.

The lower portions of all the furniture are done in this beautiful fluted wood finish. We left the top portions, which are at eye level, all white.

On the bed side too, the chest of drawers and study table are in the beautiful wood finish, topped with white cabinets above.

As is obvious from all the photographs, there was no doubt in the clients’ minds that they wanted a blue colour bedroom. We started our selections with this beautiful rug.

We had this custom made for us in a runner size and have placed one on each side of the bed to add a cozy warmth to the room.

The heavy and sheer curtains are again both white, to keep them light on the eyes. Pretty blue prints and embroideries on both add the colour and pattern in the room.

The white, shibori print bedcover makes the perfect base for the deep blue patterned headboard, cushions and quilt on it.

Before and Afters

Coming up are a few before and afters from the master bedroom of Falaz Azura.

Here is the bed wall..

We placed the bed in the centre, with a study table near the window and a chest of drawers on the other side of the bed instead of regular side tables.

The wardrobe wall..

We have floor to ceiling wardrobes on one side along with a slimmer dressing cabinet placed next to them.

The study corner…

We replaced the bedside table near the window with a study table that works as both. A storage cabinet above the table gives additional storage space for the study as well as the room in general.

Get The Look

Most of the furniture you see in this bedroom has been customised and made on site as per exact measurements to make sure it all fits in perfectly. So sharing below a few of the decor accents we used to bring this room to life.

It is packed end to end with useful, functional pieces, yet it is light, pleasant and serene. This beautiful, breezy blue master bedroom of Falak Azura is a treat to the eyes and a balm to the soul.

I think blues generally create a restful and tranquil environment, but am especially thrilled with the mix of blues we have here. I love how the patterns we’ve used are joyful and vibrant, yet the deep indigo tones have a mature and calm vibe.

Let me know if you agree, and what your favourite element in this room is.

I still have a couple of bedrooms and the stunning bathrooms of Falak Azura to share with you. So keep checking in every week. You can sign up here if you’d like to be notified directly when I publish a new post.
