It’s time to start showing you the bedrooms of our Mid Century Modern Home, and we begin first with the mint green master bedroom reveal.

The Plan

I had discussed this plan in detail in the intro post of this bedroom. Let’s do a quick synopsis again, but if you’d like to see more details, click here to go through that post before reading ahead.

This large bedroom originally had a separate, walled in, wardrobe area. We broke down the wall to include that area into the room and make it so much larger and more spacious.

The bed comes against the longest wall of the room with a TV unit and some seating opposite it. The length of wardrobe along the entire length of wall on one side gives us generous storage.

The Bed Wall

The small passageway as you enter the master bedroom is simply great for privacy. The first thing you see as you step in, is the bed wall.

A king size bed with a side table on either side pretty much make up our bed wall. Since we had ample space on both sides, we decided to go with large side tables that run almost along the entire length of this wall. This gives us a whole lot of storage and surface area and also larger passage ways for walking on either side of the bed.

Along with a simple pendant on either side, we also have a reading light just next to the headboard. This will least disturb the other person if one wants to read or wrap up some work before bedtime.

TV Wall

Opposite the bed we have a small unit with a pair of chairs. Though the client doesn’t want to install a TV in the bedroom right now, they want to keep the option open if they ever decide to do so in the future. We had this delicate unit custom made to suit the purpose.

The plug point for the television falls behind the painting. So at any time they like, they can remove the painting and install a television there without any problem.

These lovely chairs already belonged to the client. They are extremely comfortable and just the right size for the narrow passage space left at the end of the bed. I also like that they are fully upholstered on the backs too. This means there won’t be any ugly scratches on the walls if they get pushed against the wall, which is bound to happen given the width of this passageway.

The Arch

The entire wardrobe area was earlier enclosed by a wall. We broke down that wall to make this area a part of the master bedroom.

We had only one small problem. The ceiling of the wardrobe area was much lower than the bedroom ceiling. This meant that we had to either lower the ceiling of the entire bedroom by a foot, to keep the full ceiling in one line. Or we would have an unsightly dip in the ceiling on one side.

Mint Green Master Bedroom

We made this beautiful, wide arch between the wardrobe and sleeping areas to solve this problem. Now, even though the ceiling on the wardrobe side is lower than the ceiling on this side, you can’t tell because of the arch in between.

The Wardrobe Area

The arch now beautifully divides and defines the two areas. We have an entire wall of wardrobe, the white making sure they look light and blend into the walls. A full length mirror on one side makes our dressing area.

The arch helped us in another way too. We have concealed tall, slender storage units in the columns on both sides of the arch. The front face of the column opens to reveal a row of glass shelves behind it and provides all the storage we need for cosmetics right near the mirror.

The colour scheme for this room started with the pretty, pale green curtains that you see here.

Next came this rug with shades of mint green along with a gentle mix of greys and beiges.

But you know me by now.. I couldn’t really stick to that one shade of green all across. We ended up picking up this charming bedcover with shades of olives, light and bright greens to add a pop of happy to this space.

The graceful, silvery pendants and that rich, white macrame wall hanging kept our room looking light and sophisticated as we had imagined it.

The Balcony

Finally, a couple of gorgeous wicker chairs paired with a vintage table belonging to the client, went into the balcony.

Isn’t this just the kind of place where you’d like to begin your day with a cup of tea and end it with a glass of wine?

Before and Afters

And wrapping it up with a few before and afters.

The wardrobe wall..

Which we broke down and replaced with an arch to include the wardrobe area into the bedroom.

The long, blank bed wall..

We laid out the large bed and side tables along it’s entire length.

The window wall..

.. is now all pretty, with the same fabulous view.

And finally the TV wall..

A mix of vintage chairs and a brand new TV unit help this complete the room.
