Let us continue with our tour of ‘Gul’ with this charming, nature inspired master bedroom. As you saw in the living room reveal last time, walking into this home feels like a walk in a summer garden. You can almost feel the gentle breeze blow lightly through your hair.

We carried this serene, placid vibe right into the master bedroom. As you walk into the bedroom from the living, a soothing oneness with nature follows you right in.

This lovely view of the living room from the bed says it better than I ever could.

But before I get into how pretty this space is, let’s start with…

The Plan

The bedroom has a small offset in one corner which we wanted to put to good use. We did this by dividing the wardrobe into a ‘his’ and a ‘hers’. One part went into the offset, designed like a walk in wardrobe. The other part went along the length of the long wall.

There is a sliver of window along the wall, between the two wardrobes. A small window seat below that made a perfect reading nook for this bedroom.

There is also a small strip of wall between the bathroom door and the sliding doors to the balcony. We enclosed part of this behind a mirror paneled shutter to make a dressing area. The remaining continued as book shelves along the wall.

The Bed Wall

The bed is placed along the entrance wall of the room, just as you enter it.

The walk-in-wardrobe shutters to the left leave no space for a bedside table there. We used a wider headboard to provide a shelf behind the bed instead. To the right, we have just enough space to fit in a small side table between the bed and the door.

The Wardrobes

To the left of the bed we have the shutters to the walk-in-wardrobe. Putting these here, instead of a regular wardrobe, not only gave us more wardrobe space, but also helped to block off the offset, making the room a neat rectangle.

The wardrobe continues in an ‘L’ along the adjacent wall, as a regular wardrobe.

This window seat fits in perfectly between the two. It makes a delightful nook to sit with a book or a cup of tea, and a view of the city below. We used a Roman blind on the window so it doesn’t hang on to the seat and get in the way.

Dressing and Bookshelves

In the corner between the bathroom and balcony doors, we fit in the dressing area and the book shelves. Since the dressing mirror was in the extreme corner we angled it slightly inwards, towards the room, so that you don’t have to stick to the wall to be able to see yourself in it.

The Wallpaper

The wallpaper was our first selection for this bedroom. We loved this pretty watercolour mural in pastel shades. We could easily use it across the expanse of the room without fear of it becoming ‘too much’.

Considering the room is not too large, we didn’t want to make the wardrobes dark and overbearing. One option was to keep the wardrobes light and use wallpaper on the walls. We thought vice-versa was a more exciting way to do it.

Since the wardrobes are the first thing you see as you enter the room, the wallpaper clad shutters bring you to nature immediately. I also loved that we could wrap the wallpaper around in an ‘L’ to carry the wallpaper along two walls.

The wood paneled window seat gives a break in the middle to keep it from being overpowering.

Once we had the wallpaper, we picked the rest of our furnishings to make it our hero. Both the curtains have a gentle wave pattern in white and grey. The neutral colour allows the wallpaper pastels to shine, while the waves are in sync with the swaying leaves.

The pretty runners on both sides of the bed are bolder in terms of colour and the floral pattern.

The floral motifs continued on the bedside table, and this beautiful artwork in greys and pinks was a lucky find, and fit right into the scheme of things.

Another pretty piece of art between the two doors is all we needed to complete that side of the room.

We kept the headboard and bedcover in shades of grey and then went back to our greens and lavenders on the quilt.

Finally, we went for brighter floral prints and embroideries on the cushion covers to enhance our nature theme.

Before and Afters

Here is the wall along the entrance door with the offset to one side…

We regularised the shape of the room by closing the offset with shutters, and the bed fit neatly next to it.

The bedroom and bathroom doors…

Revamped to a natural, woody feel with a simple floral artwork between them to complete the look.

The sliver of a window along the offset…

Made a great spot for a reading nook between the two wardrobes.

The main wardrobe wall and balcony doors…

The wardrobe shutters made the biggest canvas in our nature inspired master bedroom.
