With all its ups and downs, the last year flew by quite fast. And though work was at a standstill for quite a few months, we did manage to wrap up a few projects quickly once the lockdown was over. We’ve handed over some beautiful homes with some pretty furniture… the most important of which, I always think, is the seating. So here is our seating roundup 2021.

Seating Roundup 2021

Seating Roundup 2021

From formal living areas to casual family rooms to seating for kids.. you need a blend of different types of seating to complete a home. We’ve used a selection of pieces that are both comfortable and beautiful in the homes we’ve designed.

Let me show you a few of what we’ve used and loved over the last year.

Olivia Hand Carved Sofa

While most of the seating pieces we picked were fully upholstered, more modern seats, we wanted one hand carved, wooden piece that would help bring to mind the haveli style we had planned for this living room.

The single carved band at the base was just the right touch to the otherwise relatively simple lines of this wooden sofa. It added the appropriate amount of vintage vibe to our room, without being overly ornate or elaborate.

Mid-Century Classic Sofa

A patterned floor, Moroccan lamps, brocade blinds and brass details. We wanted our sofa to be simpler and more classic to balance all of that. It’s what I love about mid-century furniture, that it easily complements most styles. This sofa did just that for this living room.

Grace Accent Chair

It was the same story with this chair. Fully upholstered with vertical tufting on the back. Simple and modern, with a hint of frill to go with the rich, haveli style decor.

Priscilla Dining Chair

A solid, rectangular wooden block for a dining table with horizontal bars running across the backs of the dining chairs. We wanted to add just a hint of ornamentation to this dining set. We loved the delicately carved backs of these chairs. The extra height also adds to their ‘presence’ at the ends of the table.

Sewells Round Stool

One of my favourites from our seating roundup 2021 is this small, soft, cute and multifunctional piece. This stool works as a foot stool with a comfortable chair, a seat for a tiny tot or a side table along a bed to keep a book or a phone. This stool was love at first sight and I was thrilled when I found the perfect place to use it.

Joan Wingback Chair

A wingback chair is always a good addition to a bedroom. Large and comfortable, whether you sit back with your legs stretched out in front, or folded under yourself, wingback chairs are a great spot to sit back and relax.

The pretty print on this upholstery also fits right into our girly-girl room here.

Ethnic Wooden Bench

A slim seat to fit in front of that slim panel near the bar. A spot to stop and sip your drink, or chat with your host while he makes you one. This bench was the answer.

I usually customise the upholstery of any piece of furniture I order. That it came with this bright pink fabric that fit into our colour scheme so well, was an added bonus.

Rattan Arm Chair

Wicker furniture usually reminds me of a time gone by. Yet the clean lines of this chair would fit into any modern space. I love how this chair adds to the eclectic vibe here.

Havana Lounge Chair

The gentle curves and the incline of that back rest make this is one incredibly comfortable seat! I can imagine this chair being a favourite with most members of this household.

Verandah Chair

A beautiful mid-century piece that will never go out of style, what I also love about this chair is its compact size. It is easy to fit into small apartment living rooms while not compromising on comfort one bit.

Paul Wooden Sofa

The size of a bench, yet the comfort of a sofa, with simple, straight lines. This piece helped us add to the seating of this small living room without making it look crowded and cramped.

Next on our seating roundup 2021 are these small, sweet stools. We love the ethnic pop of colour they add to this living room.

The quirky profile of these chairs with the ‘V’ shaped legs makes this first view of our dining space so much more interesting.

This chair is light, small and yet incredibly comfortable. Just the kind you need to make a tiny, barely-there, balcony a cozy place to hang out.

While selecting seating for apartments my most common struggle is finding pieces which are compact in size while yet being comfortable. A lot of the beautiful furniture you see above fits that bill and has helped us design small yet stylish spaces.

I think you’ll find these easy to fit into most spaces in your home, whatever the design style. So remember to bookmark this seating roundup 2021 for reference whenever required.
