We’re here with yet another beautiful space from our White & Light Home today. Welcome to our black and white bedroom reveal!

Any of you who’ve been around here for any length of time will know that my design style is anything but minimalist. So a brief of an entire room done in no colour at all (does anyone consider black a colour? Or white?) was not really my cup of tea.

Did we stick to that brief? Oh yes!

Did we go minimalist? Oh no!

Let me show you what we did…

Black and White Bedroom Reveal

The Plan:

In case you missed the introductory post to this room, here’s a plan of this room to start with. Though I will do a quick synopsis here, if design really interests you, then hop over and read the first post too. You’ll enjoy the thought process that went behind what you see now.

A Black and White Bedroom

Though this is the master bedroom of the home, it isn’t very large. But it is the only bedroom with an attached balcony, which makes it that much more special.

The room already had wardrobes, which we didn’t want to remove unnecessarily, so we worked with them. The rest of the room was a blank slate, to do as we please. And this is what we did.

The Wardrobe Wall:

Since we had the wardrobes to begin with, let’s begin our black and white bedroom reveal with them.

Though the wardrobes were in good working condition, they were literally made only of ply. They had no veneer, no laminate, nothing covering the ply. We gave them a chic finish with a coat of paint and some smart black handles to go with our black and white theme.

This corner was the best place to fit in a mirror and we decided to go with a full length one.. literally! There is an LED strip light running along it’s entire length, from floor to ceiling, between the mirror and the bathroom door, which makes it great for dressing.

I also love how the wardrobes multiply in it’s reflection and gives the room more depth.

The Bathroom Wall:

The mirror seen above is where our bathroom wall begins. We decided to go black and white on our bathroom door too. As you would have read in our parent’s room reveal, all the doors in this home have a black frame and we love how we have been able to use it differently in different spaces.

In this room we matched the bathroom door finish with the wardrobes and it makes quite a statement.

We used this beautiful wallpaper on the rest of the bathroom wall. The mild pattern gives it just the right amount of interest without being overwhelming.

We did away with the chair we had planned in the corner (see the plan above). Firstly, because the space was getting too cramped with not much room between the bed and the chair. Secondly, because we already had some sitting just outside that corner, in the balcony. To put another chair inside seemed unnecessary.

The Window Wall:

The main design element in our window wall, is obviously the curtains. We used a pretty motif on the curtains to add to the pattern, and balanced that with almost plain sheers.

These ombre sheers are one of my favourites and lend an ethereal feel to this room.

The Bed Wall:

The plain, white bed we’ve used in this room is an absolute beauty. But I always think design elements stand out more by contrast than by uniformity. And so we got these beautiful bone inlay side tables to add exciting pattern to this corner.

That simple modern pendant is again the perfect antithesis to the pattern.

The Balcony:

Which brings us to the beautiful balcony. It’s the perfect place for the happy inhabitants of this room to take some private time out with a cup of coffee and a book.

Black and White Bedroom Reveal

We used cane furniture here because it is well suited to the outdoors, and to soften the black and white of the room as you step outside. The chevron cushions tie in the look with the rest of the room.

As does our patterned inlay on the floor. And the breathtaking view makes it just right to relax and unwind.

Our Black And White Bedroom Reveal:

Now that we have an overview of the room, here is a look at how we added the textures and patterns.

A great place to start is the rug. It usually spreads across an expanse and helps to tie in the different elements from the various areas of the room. Which makes it just the right element to set the tone. Our rug says ‘black, white and pattern’ loud and clear and pretty much sets the tone of this room.

The wallpaper played an important part here too. It’s gentle pattern gives a feeling of light movement without being overbearing.

The curtains are the primary givers of ‘soft’ and ‘cozy’ to a room and I love how our patterned main teamed up with our ombre sheer to give all kinds of chic vibes here.

And finally all our soft furnishings. From the striped linen throw, to the knit patterned cushions to the trim of fur on our floral, we have added a whole variety of textures and patterns to keep this space interesting.

Black and White Bedroom Reveal

Is black and white boring? Not at all!

Before and Afters:

We finally end our black and white bedroom reveal with a series of before and afters.

Our beautiful large windows and the bathroom door wall…

The white door lightens up that whole wall with the mirror adding depth. The lightly patterned wallpaper keeps us from getting bored.

The sadly finished plain plywood wardrobes…

Absolutely gorgeous! I would never choose black and white, but the way you have designed and put it all together, makes me rethink on black and white. Superb job!
