Next, we move on to the vibrant master bedroom of Vivid.

Master Bedroom of Vivid

Here we have brilliant blues and peaches layering the deep wood and brass we’ve seen in the other spaces of the home so far. They all come together to make this bedroom bright and lively… or shall I say, vivid?

The Plan

You enter the bedroom through a small passageway that opens onto a landing. This leads into the bathroom straight ahead, and the bedroom to the left. It always makes me happy to see a layout like this, especially for a master bedroom. You can ensure some level of privacy even when the door is open.

We layed out the bed and side tables along the main, facing wall of the bedroom, with wardrobes to one side, along the bathroom wall. Opposite the bed they have a cot for their baby girl. This is only temporary, with all the electricals planned so that they can later swap it out for a study table.

There is a narrow niche near the cot. We fit in bookshelves into this since the clients are all avid readers.

There is another wider niche outside the bathroom door. We fit a storage cupboard into this.

The Bed Wall

This was easy enough to plan out. We marked the wardrobe, and then placed the bed and the two side tables right in the centre of the remaining wall. This gives the room symmetry and also gives us enough space to walk around both sides of the bed.

A chair rail moulding, at about waist height, divides the wall into two. The lower part is painted in a beautiful peach. The upper part, in white, gives us a blank slate to showcase the artwork.

The Wardrobe

The wardrobe occupies one entire wall to the right of the bed. Since the side tables go end to end and touch the wardrobe, the first shutter is a little shorter than the others. If you look closely you’ll see the groove, a few inches above the side table, along which the shutter opens.

The wardrobe is a plain wood finish with simple brass handles. It goes with the wood and gold we have dominating most of the home. Since we’ve done nothing fancy here, it helped balance out the vivid colours and patterns we’ve used in the entire bedroom.

The Built-Ins

We have two niches in this room. The first is in the little landing just outside the bathroom. This made an excellent space for storage in addition to the wardrobes. We made the storage flush with the entrance wall so that it flows seamlessly along the passage.

We also clad these shutters with mirrors. This not only makes that landing look wider, but also makes for a great dressing area just outside the bathroom.

There is also a narrower niche just off the passageway and inside the bedroom. We clad the back with the same wood finish we’ve used in the rest of the room, and added simple shelves to make it a bookshelf.

The baby cot fits in front of the bed, right next to bookshelves. The long term plan is for this space is to remove the cot and replace it with a study table when the baby outgrows it and moves into her own room.

Look and Feel

The clients fell in love with this beautiful rug, and that was our starting point for the master bedroom of Vivid.

We picked the beautiful peach and used it on the wall below the chair rail, and mixed it up with the deep blues on the bedding. That gorgeous bedcover was a really lucky find. It’s colours are so perfect it looks like we had it custom made to match the rug!

You can see how beautifully all the colours and finishes come together in this room. You can see hints of the peaches and blues in the curtain fabric and artwork. Gold is sprinkled all over too, going from the handles and knobs, the headboard border and light fitting… to the gold beadwork in the smaller pieces of art.

Before and Afters

The bed wall…

The bed comes right in the centre with the side tables on both sides. We made an additional pelmet to cover the beam. This serves a double purpose. It allows the AC pipes to pass behind it and the curtain channels to be fixed at the bottom.

The opposite corner.. you can see the hole given in the wall here for the AC pipes to pass through.

We could pass the AC pipes through the hole, but not through the wall since it is a beam. So the pipes went in front of the wall, and we made this false beam in plywood to cover them.

The wall opposite the bed…

… makes space for the baby cot right now. This will be replaced with a study table at a later date.

The niche in the wall..

… makes a beautiful, and very useful, bookshelf for our clients, who are all avid readers.

Get The Look

The master bedroom of Vivid is yet another lively, cheerful space from this vivid home. I especially love how the striking colours and motifs set the tone of this room.

Most of the selections we make are online and we open and put them together only on the last day when we shoot the home. So when I unpack the bedcover and see it is the exact same peach as the wall and the perfectly paired blue with the quilt, it’s a moment of true joy. A feeling of complete gratification, as everything falls into place…

Tell me what your favourite element in this room is. I have so many, it’s difficult for me to pick one! So let’s see what you pick, while you wait for the girls’ room coming up next week.

Until then,
